It takes ten to fifteen-minutes to walk down to the village along the roads, a bit more on the return journey as some of it’s uphill. If you wish to use them, steps down are available which can knock about five minutes off the downward journey time. Flat non-slip shoes are to be recommended as not all roads are paved.
Villa keys - Mehmet will meet you and hand them over or if you will arrive late other arrangements can be made. Please also make arrangements with Mehmet for the keys on your departure.
Insurance it is your responsibility to arrange adequate insurance to cover all eventualities.
Shops and other facilities stay open until about midnight in the season. The banks (there are two, and each has an ATM) to about 10pm.
There are several supermarkets, which will deliver you and your purchases to the villa. Fruit and vegetables can also be bought from a variety of stalls. There are two butchers, a fish shop and a patisserie. There is a large tented market each Thursday on the road up to the petrol station.
You will find some bottled water in the villa on arrival. The local water is not recommended for drinking and bottled water is cheaper in Turkey than in the UK. Large bottles costing around £1.25 can be bought to fit the water cooler. These can be delivered direct to the villa but the empty container should be left out for collection otherwise a returnable deposit of around £8 will have to be paid for a new one.
There are English-speaking doctors and dentists in the village and the pharmacies are useful for help with minor ailments and purchase of over the counter medication.
Lots of the locals speak English, but if you find one that doesn't
there is usually help at hand.
There are over 100 restaurants in Kalkan and sometimes in high season the most popular will need booking. We recommend that you try some of those off the beaten track. Good, cheap Turkish food can be bought at local soup kitchens such as ‘Bezirgan’s Kitchen’ and ‘Flower Tomato’ and superb kebabs to take away at the restaurant at the petrol station!
Most things can be found in Kalkan. Just ask Mehmet or a local and
they will be only too pleased to direct you. There are two Internet cafes.
